Overview

Nutri Tamarind, commonly known as Imli, provides the distinctive sour and fruity character used across Pakistani, South Asian and international cooking. Its concentrated pulp develops a deep tangy flavour that can balance sweetness, richness, saltiness and spice in both traditional and contemporary recipes. Soak the Tamarind (Imli) to extract its pulp for chutneys, sauces, curries, drinks and chaat preparations. It can also be incorporated into marinades and gravies where a fuller, fruit-based sourness is preferred.

Ingredients

Tamarind. Please refer to the product pack for the exact and most current ingredient declaration, including any added salt, sugar or preservative.

Taste & Texture

Pronouncedly sour and tangy with concentrated fruit character, gentle natural sweetness and a deep, lingering finish. The dried pulp has a dense, soft and fibrous texture that loosens and becomes easier to extract after soaking in warm water.

Dietary Information

A plant-based fruit ingredient suitable for vegetarian and vegan recipes. Intended for culinary use as a souring, flavouring and cooking ingredient. Review the product pack for any batch-specific added ingredients and dietary information.

Allergens

Packed in a facility that also handles tree nuts, peanuts, seeds and sesame.

Usage

Soak Nutri Tamarind in warm water until the pulp softens. Mash thoroughly, then strain to separate the smooth tamarind extract from the seeds and firm fibres. Adjust the amount of water according to the concentration required by the selected recipe. Use the extracted pulp in chutneys, curries, sauces, marinades, soups, drinks and chaat preparations. Add gradually and adjust after tasting, as Tamarind provides concentrated sourness.

Serving Ideas

Use Tamarind to prepare sweet Tamarind (Imli) chutney for samosas, pakoras, dahi bhallay, papri chaat, chana chaat and pani puri. Combine it with dates, jaggery or sugar when a balanced sweet-and-sour accompaniment is preferred. Add the extracted pulp to curries, daal, barbecue marinades, dipping sauces and savoury gravies. Use it to prepare Tamarind (Imli) ka pani, tamarind sherbet, tangy sauces or homemade chaat seasonings.
